After buying an iphone 3GS a couple of month ago I thought there would be loads of support on how to jailbreak and improve the phone, however there seems to be little support for the iphone 3GS. This forum is no different with no updated news for weeks or even months. Ive heard nothing for weeks about the so called untethered JB for 5.0(1) no news or chat or even rumours.
I'm forever looking around the internet for help and news but I thought a forum with the iphone3GS name in its title would be keeping up with the latest news and developments.

I do apologize you feel that way! Honestly there are alot of forums...and especially with the 4 and now the 4s, not many people are interested in the 3gs. I know, i love my 3 gs alot...and i try to keep things as updated as i can, as does tkima1, but we do apologize...and feel free to send out any suggestions in this post. I am all ears

Ps: there is no news on an untethered jailbreak for 5.0.1/5.0 and i am just as disappointed about that...

Personally, I do not even want to give Jailbreak a single thought. I don't feel that my phone needs it. However, I can understand that people want to JB their phones.

When it comes to Jailbreak for iOS 5 there is currently no good Jailbreak (untethered), but if I do come across a Jailbreak that is good and untethered and also compatible with the 3gs I'll be happy to post so on the forums here. I'll look around on my other forums as well. Have a nice day, and I do apologize for your concern of support for JB for 3gs.

Also, if you want a tethered JB you can use redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze.

Over on the iPhone 4 forum there is a guide and updated information for Jailbreaking the iPhone 4, which I do believe will work for the 3gs also. Have a look, the TS frequently updates that post. Also the Jailbreaking section is good over at myiphone4.org

http://www.myiphone4.org/jailbreakingunlocking-any-iphone/tutorial-how-to-jailbreak-ios-5-all-idevices-**-not-available-yet-**/

Disclaimer: I am NOT familiar with jailbreaking and very little experience with the whole process.

... If you are using 5.0 Jailbreak, and are waiting for untethered Jailbreak. Please stay away from iOS 5.0.1. As well as the battery fix, it also fixes a vulnerability exposed by Charlie Miller. The exploit should help get an untethered Jailbreak (according to pod2g).

5.0.1 has already been jailbroke by the same methods mentioned already (see link to my blog). ...

... You can have a TETHERED Jailbreak using sn0wbreeze or Redsn0w. But I will update this tutorial with the UNTETHERED versions as and when they become available. ...
