AT&T must be worried about Verizon and the iPhone.  I get some very minimal AT&T service at home living in the "sticks".  I received an offer for a FREE, yes FREE, AT&T 3G MicroCell mini tower. ( http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/why/3gmicrocell/) Well the thing boosted my home signal from a fading 1 bar to 5 solid bars.  Imagine, I can use my iPhone at home!  Verizon has stated that they would be willing to buy out any AT&T plans for people wishing to switch services before their contracts are up with AT&T.  The Verizon signal in my area is really hot, so this free ($200) device keeps me with AT&T.  Smart move on their part, however, I wish they had offered the MicroCell before they "had" to.
