the “4G” refers to the “generation”. It is the 4th Generation iPhone. Apple is purposely mis-leading people because they competition (Android) recently revealed they’re coming out on the first REAL 4G (network) phone (the HTC Evo on Sprint). So they’re trying to get peoples attention again by tricking people into thinking the next iPhone will have 4G as well.

AT&T was talking 4g before sprint. They already have the 4g network up and tested for the new iphone which will be the only phone using the 4g network all other phones will be running on the 3g network.
