Does using GPS on the iPhone cost any extra?

I am enjoying my watch (except for the battery life) and have just noticed one thing that really irks me.
When my autolap clicks (currently set for 1 mile), my current pace JUMPS to 4:45 - 5:50 range and will hang around there for about the first .05. Slowly, it comes back to normal. The strange thing is that the actual pace does not do that. Anyway, it is a big enough inconvenience to me that I would not wear for a marathon until that is fixed. It doesn't even out until around .3 or .37 mile. I can't wait that long for my pace tool to come back to earth and give me the correct pace.
Anyone else having this problem? There has to be a fix for it - that is the good thing, it is definitely a software issue.
